About Yeditepe University
Yeditepe University is the largest private university in Turkey with 18,898 students, 948 full-time and 51 adjunct faculty members, and 63 departments in 12 faculties. The university has three hospital sites, and the main Yeditepe University Hospital was recently listed as an A-class hospital with its exceptional facilities and service in Turkey. Yeditepe University hosts some of the best faculty in Turkey that is internationally recognized with a high focus on conducting top-notch research. Supported by a tradition of academic excellence and international academic cooperation, Yeditepe University today is a research-oriented university that continues to develop its relations with institutions in Europe and North America. The academic staff is strongly encouraged to participate in international and national research programs according to the institution policy. The university formed a Research Office in 2006 to support the ongoing EU and Turkish funded research projects and patents. The Research Office helps the researchers for the application and negotiation processes of research funds and advises on legal matters in applying for patents. The university has been receiving a steadily increasing amount of research funds since the formation of the Research Office. Since 2006, the university has received funds for 5 EU 6th Framework Programme projects, 8 EU 7th Framework Programme projects, 1 NSF project, 1 UNIDO project, 99 TUBITAK (The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey) projects, 5 DPT (Government Planning Organization) projects, and 14 SANTEZ (given by the Ministry of Trade and Industry) projects. There are also 5 ongoing projects that are locally funded by Yeditepe University itself. The university has applied for 26 international and 25 national patents. The university took 7 national patents and 4 international patents in 2011-2014. The faculty members of Yeditepe University have published 1623 SCI, 187 SSCI and 24 A&HCI publications between 2009 and 2014. The university also established a Publication Award program to encourage its faculty to publish their research work in international CI journals.
Regenerative Biology Research Lab Infrastructure
Regenerative biology research lab is part of the Genetics and Bioengineering Department at Yeditepe University. The Genetics and Bioengineering Department & Stem Cell Excellence Center is gathering experts in the field of regenerative and stem cell biology. The institution provides a shared-lab space policy for academic personnel and encourages collaboration between different research groups in and out of our institution. Researchers have both a general laboratory space for routine experimental work as well as tissue-culture laboratory space. Researchers have access to all core-facilities such as animal house, flow cytometry and advanced microscopy. The Genetics and Bioengineering Department has access to the all of the equipment for molecular biology (microcentrifuges, -80oC freezers, PCR, real-time PCR, UV transilluminator and so on), tissue culture (with dedicated laminar flow hood and CO2 incubators), and microscopy (including confocal microscope). In addition, shared core equipment such as dark room, histology equipment, ultracentrifuges and fluorescence activated cell sorter (FACS) (BD FACSAria III and BD FACSCalibur) are part of center. Furthermore, facilities for animal research are accredited, overseen and maintained by veterinarians and professional staff.
Researchers at the Genetics and Bioengineering Department have collaborated on several EU and national projects with European Union countries. Since 2006, the department has received funds for 1 EU 6th Framework Programme project, 3 EU 7th Framework Programme projects, 2 EMBO Installation Grants , and a number of TUBITAK (The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey), SANTEZ, and DTP projects. There are also ongoing projects that are locally funded by Yeditepe University itself.
Lab Infrastructure:
Dr. Kocabas moved to Yeditepe University in August 2014 and started to establish his laboratory with provided equipment in The Genetics and Bioengineering Department, Yeditepe University.
